Warwick’s Nick Whale returned to the GT Cup recently at the Donington round of the GT Cup sharing the Silverstone Auctions backed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car with son Harry over the Race weekend.
On his return to the Series Nick qualified the In2Racing run Porsche in P3 and with Harry also posting a quick qualifying time the bar was raised on the Stratford Upon Avon teams return to the GT Cup.
Race 1 saw a dramatic start with the Pole position Chevron being sidelined with accident damage into turn 1, whilst the In2racing Porsche made a strong start to be in P3 at the end of the first lap. A penalty for the FF Corse run 430GT3 Ferrari allowed the in2racing Porsche to take the lead after earlier passing the iconic Morgan Aero8. A series of fast lap times enabled the Silverstone Auctions backed machine to take the Teams and Drivers first win in the Gt Cup for 2011.
Race 2 saw a dramatic start for Harry in his first race on slick tyres, after challenging the Ferrari and Tvr’s for 5th place into turn 1 Harry was forced to take avoiding action and as a result dropped back to P26 at the end of lap 1. With No front down force as a result of accident damage sustained at the start Harry drove maturely and quickly adjusted his style to start moving up the order. By half distance a series of strong lap times meant that Harry was in with a chance of a top 10 finish. By the flag the Silverstone Auctions backed car was up to P7 and with a lap time just off his Qualifying time Harry suitably impressed both his In2racing team but his more experienced competitors.
The Next race for Nick and Harry will be at the famous Spa Francorchamps circuit in the Ardennes Forest in early October.
