Series Leader Mike Donovan had a frustrating weekend at Rounds 5 and 6 of the Dutch Supercar Challenge at Assen.
Qualifying an excellent P2 making the most of his second set of New Tyres promoted Mike to the front of the SS1 grid despite still carrying success ballast from Nurburgring. Performance Upgrades and modifications by the In2racing team have seen the Porsche 997 performance improve by over 2 seconds from the last race of 2009 at the Assen TT circuit.
Race 1 saw an excellent start and initial stint which saw the In2racing driver maintain his position at the front of the field, however Mike had to use all his experience to keep the car in the top six as the tyres rapidly faded in the cold track conditions seen at the Dutch track. At the flag, despite having to change all four Dunlop tyres in the pit stop Mike and the team finished in the top six, maintaining their series lead.
In race 2, the excellent start to the season finally came to an end in dramatic fashion as Mike was removed from the Race on the opening lap by some over aggressive driving by a Ford BRL driver as they exited the last corner. The damage sustained was significant and as a result the Team were unable to make the re start.
The crash at the end of lap one also eliminated fellow English Driver Kevin Riley in his Mosler, who fortunately was removed from his Burning Car by a fellow DSC competitor and the extremely brave Dick Van Elk who runs the DSC.
The In2racing team now face a battle to get the heavily damaged Porsche 997 ready for the Next race at Spa on the 27th June.
